British Travel Visa: in order to visit the UK for travel or vacation purposes, you will need a visa only if:
~ you are a national of one of the countries (click here to see the list),
~ do not have a nationality,
~ have a non-national travel document which does not give you the nationality of the country that issued it, or
~ have a passport issued by an authority not recognized in the UK.
You do not need a visa if you are an EU or EEA national.
Whether you are visiting the UK for business or social reasons, you can only stay for a maximum of six months. However, if you often visit the UK, you can apply for a visa that is valid for one, two, five or ten years in which you can visit the UK as often as you like while your visa is still valid, but you can only stay for up to six months on each visit.
QUALIFYING FOR A TRAVEL VISA :
To qualify for a visa you must be able to show that you will visit the UK for no more than 6 months leaving at the end of your visit and that you have enough money to last your trip so that you will not need any government assistance.
HOW TO APPLY FOR A VISITOR VISA :
You must fill out visa application form VAF1 non-settlement. You can apply online at the UK government visa website (www.ukvisas.gov.uk) or in person at your nearest British mission overseas that has a visa section. You can apply for a visit visa in your home country or at any visa-issuing office and also by mail or courier.
DOCUMENTATION YOU WILL NEED :
1. An application form VAF1- non-settlement filled out completely
2. A valid passport or travel document.
3. A recent passport-sized (45mm x 35mm) photograph against a light background showing the full face and printed on normal photographic paper.
4. Each applicant must pay the nonrefundable visa fee.

Other documents you should bring to prove your status as a visitor leaving the UK at the end of your trip that can fully support yourself are:
Documents that show you can support yourself and any dependants such as bank statements or pay slips
Documents that show you intend to leave the UK at the end of your visit like a letter from your employer
If visiting family or friends bring a letter from the person you are visiting explaining your relationship with them and the purpose of your visit. If this person will be paying for your trip, bring a bank statement or pay slip of theirs to show they can support you.
As a visitor you may not work (paid or unpaid), sell goods or services.
